Take care when opening emails from the HMRC.

Does the email contain the following subject lines?

  • Could not process Online Submission for Reference ***/
  • Gateway Registration Notification
  • PAYE – P6/P6B ‘You have received new messages from HMRC’
  • You are due a refund from HMRC.

If you have received such emails, please, please don’t click on any external links, and certainly don’t open any attached files !

These are Spam, commonly known as Phishing emails. The sender pretends to send you a legitimate email, in order to get your log in and password details…

HMRC are quite clear that they ‘will never send notifications of a tax rebate by email, or ask you to disclose personal or payment information by email’

If in doubt, check first!
